West Meon W.I.  Spring 2021

West Meon W.I. has a considerable number of Members in East Meon, Warnford and the surrounding area.  We are a very friendly group who usually meet on the second Monday of every month at 2.30pm, when we have a speaker or an outing and a super afternoon tea, with time for a chat.  Do come along and meet us!

In these strange and challenging times, most of our programme for 2020 was either cancelled or postponed, but the West Meon W.I. introduced some new initiatives to keep us all in touch.  When we could meet as groups of 6 last autumn, Sue Croft organised some excellent walks in the local area which were really well supported.  In the period before Christmas we introduced our email Advent calendar, where members submitted lovely photographs for us all to admire – I have to say that in these dismal times it was great to see a huge variety of subjects varying from holidays to local scenes or Christmas-themed subjects.  Most enjoyable!  We also exchanged recipes which, with all of us doing more cooking in the home, gave us some new ideas for our repertoire.

Our Programme is arranged for the remainder of 2021, and we had hoped to restart our meetings in the Spring, but unfortunately with new Covid variants arriving and the recently announced Government guidelines, it looks as though we will have to wait until after the end of June to resume our Programme.  Our first meeting will now be on Monday 12th July 2021 in the garden of our President, Berry Preece, at 2.30pm. However, as everyone knows everything is a ‘moveable feast’ at the moment and we shall have to just have to go with the flow!

We are all really looking forward to getting together again, just trying to keep positive (difficult!) and keeping safe until better times arrive (which they will!).

Stroud Evening WI was formed in 1983 and meets at Steep Village Hall, Church Road, Steep, GU32 2DN on the second Tuesday of each month at 7.30pm (unless otherwise indicated).  The hall has full disability access.

New members and visitors will receive a very warm welcome at any of our meetings.  We have members from as far afield as East Meon, Cowplain and Liss.  As well as our monthly meetings we enjoy pub lunches, walks, outings and a monthly arts and crafts get together. We take part in a WI county darts and skittles competition. Members also have the opportunity to attend courses at Denman College in Oxfordshire, for which we give a bursary once a year.
